Value of Continuous Photoelectric Recording of Dye Curves in the Estimation of Cardiac Output
نویسنده
چکیده
In order to test photoelectric recording of dye curves, simultaneous determinations of cardiac output were made in 48 patients with heart disease with the Fick and dye-dilution technics. The dye curves were recorded with a Colson densitometer following either intrathoracic or antecubital injection of dye. Both Evans blue and indoeyanine green dyes were employed. Satisfactory agreement was noted between Fick and dye estimates, demonstrating empirically the usefulness of the continuous recording technic.

Determination of relative changes in cardiac output from noncalibrated earpiece dye-dilution curves.
Coomassie Blue dye and the photoelectric earpiece" make it comparatively simple to obtain successive dye-dilution curves without arterial puncture. If the response of the recording system is linear to blood dye concentration and the vascular content of the ear is constant, it should be possible to measure relative changes in cardiac output without calibrating the corves. The purpose of this pap...
متن کاملA System for Continuous Estimating and Monitoring Cardiac Output via Arterial Waveform Analysis
Background: Cardiac output (CO) is the total volume of blood pumped by the heart per minute and is a function of heart rate and stroke volume. CO is one of the most important parameters for monitoring cardiac function, estimating global oxygen delivery and understanding the causes of high blood pressure. Hence, measuring CO has always been a matter of interest to researchers and clinicians. Sev...
متن کاملA photoelectric ear densitometer for continuously recording the arterial concentration of T-1824 in the dye-dilution method.
To eliminate the collection of serial samples of arterial blood an instrument has been developed which records dye-dilution curves by measuring changes in optical density of a segment of a heatflushed ear. Comparison with curves from arterial samples shows close similarity in the shape of the curves, and good agreement between the cardiac outputs calculated from them. Other advantages of the te...
متن کاملThe Use of the Ear Oximeter for Measurement of the Cardiac Output During Walking Exercise in Human Subjects ‡
For the study of walking exercise in human subjects, an accurate method for measurement of the cardiac output is needed which can be applied repeatedly and with minimal discomfort to the subject. Continuous recording of dye-dilution curves by means of an ear oximeter has been used previously,"'9'10 for estimating the cardiac output at rest, and requires only venipuncture. However, the accuracy ...
متن کاملDye dilution curves and cardiac output in newborn infants.
The pattern of ldye dilution curves and the cardiac output was studied in 29 healthy newborn infants during the first 26 hours of life by the method of Wood and his associates. Thirty-six per cent of all infants studied had curves of normal contour which occurred mostly in infants older than 15 hours. Infants younger than 15 hours tended to have curves of abnormal shape. These were either di-ph...
